Barbara Arnold was born in post war London where her secondary school education included clerical skills. She consequently worked in a number of offices before emigrating to New Zealand with her family. After wondering what on earth she was doing in the "uttermost parts of the earth", she enrolled for a creative writing class and subsequently wrote a number of articles, which, to her surprise were published and well received. She followed this by writing short stories and stories for children before beginning her career as a novelist. Barbara teaches creative writing at The University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.
Her debut novel, 'He Called Me Son' has been digitally published on Amazon.com. It is the first in a series entitled 'The Blountmere Street Series', the second novel of which, 'The Best in Blountmere Street' has recently been released on Amazon for Kindle readers. The third, with a working title of 'Reunion', is a work in progress. Barbara has also written a humorous book called, 'I'm Only Here To Do Your Typing.'
When I am asked why I write, my answer is "Because I can't not write." For me, writing is a compulsion, a wonderful obsession. Yes, it's a lone occupation, but I always have my characters to keep me company.
